However, a common question we receive from our community is: "When do I actually or really need to change my filters?" Here is everything you need to know about maintaining your system and understanding the "language" of your machine. Understanding the Smart Indicators Our 12L and 20L units are equipped with an intelligent display system designed to take the guesswork out of maintenance. You may notice a subtle blinking number on your display ("Filter icon" or "UV Replacement icon"), ranging from 1 to 8. Each number corresponds to a specific filter or UV lamp within the unit. Please also consult your Instructions / Manual for more information. It is important to understand that these indicators are programmed to a standard time-based schedule. They serve as a helpful reminder to ensure your water quality is always at its peak, but they do not necessarily mean the filter has reached the end of its life. Because our machines operate in diverse climates, from the humid tropics of Bali to more arid urban environments, the actual wear and tear on your filters will vary significantly. The golden rule: Senses & Verification We always recommend a "Check First" approach. Before rushing to replace a filter simply because a light is blinking, evaluate your environment and use your senses as a guide. Is the water crystal clear? Is it odorless? Does it still have that crisp, fresh taste? Your senses are a powerful tool, but we advise using them with a balanced mindset: Trust is good, verify is better. While you should listen to what your taste and smell are telling you, don't follow them blindly. It is important to remember that our indicators are programmed to a standard time-based schedule; we include this feature in compliance with international safety standards to ensure no one is left without a reminder. However, by combining your own observations with the machine’s reminders, you avoid replacing perfectly good filters too early while ensuring your water remains at its peak. Home verification made easy: The TDS meter To move beyond just taste and smell, many of our owners use a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter. This small, convenient device measures the concentration of dissolved minerals, salts, and metals in your water. It provides a quick digital readout that serves as an excellent benchmark for your filter health. If your TDS levels start to creep up significantly, it’s a clear sign that your physical filters (like the Sediment or Carbon stages) are reaching capacity. The limitation of technology While a TDS meter is invaluable for monitoring mineral content, it has a critical blind spot: it cannot detect bacteria, viruses, or organic pathogens. Because these biological threats are invisible to a standard TDS test, we advise a stricter approach for sterilization. While you can use your judgment for physical filters based on your meter readings, you should always stick to the 18-month schedule for your LED-UV Lamp filters. Trust the meter for mineral purity, but trust the clock for biological safety. The built-in maintenance schedule While your environment dictates the reality, the machine follows this factory-set "safety first" schedule to ensure you never forget to inspect the core components: Component Factory Reminder Note on Maintenance Air Filter Every 3 Months Check for dust; often just needs a simple cleaning. Bio Filter Every 6 Months Essential for preventing biological growth. Sediment Filter Every 6 Months Traps physical particles and debris. Pre-Carbon Filter Every 6 Months Removes odors and improves taste. Electropositive Filter Every 6 Months (20L Unit) Specialized for higher volume purity. Ultra-Fine Membrane Every 12 Months The "heavy lifter" for microscopic particles. Dual LED-UV Lamps Every 18 Months Your final defense against bacteria and viruses. Which system do you have? 7L or 20L? AFA-AWG7L (Optimized 4-Stage): This unit is built for efficiency and a compact footprint.
