// Filtration System

Where air becomes
drinking water.

Harvesting moisture from the atmosphere is just the beginning. What follows is a rigorous multi-stage purification process — physical barriers, molecular absorption, and UV sterilisation — that turns condensed air into water that is cleaner than most bottled or tap sources.

// Filter Components

Every stage has a purpose

Each filter in our systems is selected for a specific job. Together they create an unbroken chain of purification — removing what you don't want while preserving the trace minerals that make the water taste and feel exceptional.

AIR FILTER
Air Pre-Filter
Intercepts dust, pollen, insects, and airborne particulates before they reach the condensation chamber. Protects downstream components and ensures only clean air enters the system.
All models · Inspect every 3 months
PPF · SEDIMENT
Polypropylene Sediment
A 5-micron melt-blown polypropylene cartridge that catches fine sediment, rust particles, sand, and suspended solids from the condensed water. First line of liquid-side filtration.
PP variant (12L · 20L · 80L) · PPF 5µm + 1µm (250L and above) · Replace every 6–12 months
GAC · PRE-CARBON
Granular Activated Carbon
Activated carbon derived from coconut shells adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, pesticides, herbicides, and volatile organic compounds. Also improves taste and removes odour.
Coconut shell GAC · Replace every 6–12 months
SOFT · SOFTENING
Ion-Exchange Softener
Uses ion-exchange resin to remove calcium and magnesium ions, preventing scale build-up on internal components and delivering soft, smooth-tasting water. Used in compact residential models.
12L · 20L models · Replace every 12 months
UF · ULTRAFILTRATION
Ultrafiltration Membrane
A hollow-fibre membrane with a pore size of just 0.01 microns — small enough to physically block bacteria, protozoa, cysts, and most viruses, without removing the beneficial mineral content.
0.01 micron · Residential & 80L · Replace every 12 months
ELE · ELECTROPOSITIVE
Electropositive Membrane
Uses electrostatic adsorption — not just size exclusion — to attract and capture viruses, bacteria, colloids, endotoxins, and trace pharmaceuticals. Absolute rating of 0.2 microns. Standard on the 20L.
0.2 micron absolute · AWG 20L
T33 · POST-CARBON
Post-Carbon Polish
A final activated-carbon polishing stage that removes any residual taste, odour, or trace organic compounds just before dispensing. Used in the AWG 12L (residential) and AWG 80L (commercial).
12L · 80L · Replace every 12 months
UV · STERILISATION
LED UV Lamps
UV light at 265nm destroys bacteria, viruses, and microorganisms — no chemicals, no heat, no taste impact. LED lamps need no warm-up time and outlast traditional UV tubes. Residential units run dual UV-point protection; all others one.

Different generators, tailored filtration

Filter configuration scales with output capacity. Residential units prioritise compact multi-stage purification; commercial and industrial systems move to RO-based processes capable of handling continuous high-volume production.

RO = Reverse Osmosis (used in 250L–5000L). T33 = post-carbon polish (12L & 80L). ELE = Electropositive membrane (20L). Contact us for a model-specific filter kit quote.

¹ Residential models (12L & 20L) feature dual LED-UV sterilisation — two independent UV treatment points for double protection.

* PP = polypropylene sediment filter used in compact models (12L, 20L & 80L). Functionally similar to PPF but sized for compact units.

³ Commercial and industrial models from 250L upward use two PPF stages in sequence: a 5µm pre-filter to capture larger particles, followed by a 1µm fine filter before the RO membrane.

// Water Quality

What comes out of the other end

The multi-stage process is engineered to produce water that meets and exceeds WHO and EU drinking water standards — on demand, from nothing but air.

7–8
Neutral pH
Slightly alkaline output comparable to premium spring water. No acidity from atmospheric CO₂ absorption.
0.01μm
Filtration precision
UF membrane removes particles as small as 0.01 microns — smaller than most bacteria and many viruses.
99.9%
Pathogen kill rate
LED UV sterilisation delivers near-total elimination of bacteria and microorganisms — without chemicals or heat. Residential models run dual UV stages for double protection.
Zero
Plastic waste
No bottles, no delivery, no single-use plastics. Pure water produced and consumed on-site, continuously.
// Maintenance

Keeping your system performing

Filter replacement is straightforward and infrequent. Most residential users service their unit once a year — a quick swap that takes minutes and keeps water quality at its best. Replacement kits are available directly from us.

Every 3 mo
Air pre-filter inspection
Air Filter
Check and clean the air pre-filter every 3 months, or more frequently in high-dust environments. Replace if visibly blocked. This is the only regular maintenance most users will need to do between annual services.
Every 6–12 mo
Liquid filter set
PP / PPF GAC SOFT UF ELE T33 / RO
Replace the full liquid filter cartridge set once or twice per year depending on usage and local air quality. Exact filters vary by model — all filters in a set are replaced together to maintain consistent purity across every stage.
2–3 years
UV lamp replacement
LED UV
LED UV lamps have a significantly longer lifespan than traditional UV tubes. Replacement is typically required every 2–3 years under normal operating conditions. The system will alert you when UV intensity degrades.
// Common Questions

Filter questions

Do different models use different filters?
Yes. Filter configuration is tailored to each model's output capacity and design. The residential 12L uses Air Filter → PP → SOFT → UF → T33 → dual LED UV (6-stage). The 20L adds GAC and ELE stages: Air Filter → PP → GAC → SOFT → UF → ELE → dual LED UV (7-stage), providing additional electropositive filtration for virus and pharmaceutical removal. The AWG 80L uses Air Filter → PP → GAC → UF → T33 → single LED UV (6-stage). Commercial and industrial models from 250L upward use a Reverse Osmosis-based system — Air Filter → PPF (5µm) → GAC → PPF (1µm) → RO → LED UV (6-stage RO) — suited to their continuous high-volume operation. Always order the filter kit specific to your model.
How often do I need to replace the filters?
The air pre-filter should be inspected every 3 months and cleaned or replaced as needed. The liquid filter cartridge set — PP/PPF, GAC, SOFT (where fitted), UF, and ELE (where fitted) — should be replaced every 6 to 12 months depending on usage and environment. In clean, low-humidity environments annual replacement is typically sufficient; in high-use or tropical conditions, a 6-month cycle is recommended. UV LED lamps last 2 to 3 years under normal use.
Does the filtration process remove beneficial minerals?
Our UF and ELE membranes are specifically chosen because they filter by physical size and electrostatic charge — not by reverse osmosis. This means they remove pathogens and contaminants while preserving dissolved mineral ions that contribute to taste and health. The resulting water has a mineral profile comparable to premium spring water with a neutral-to-slightly-alkaline pH. Models using RO (250L and above) do strip minerals more aggressively — this is appropriate for industrial-scale purification and remineralisation can be added on request.
Are the replacement filters easy to source?
Replacement filter kits are available directly from AquaFromAir and ship worldwide. Kits are model-specific and contain everything you need for one full service cycle. Order your filter kit on our order filters page. For commercial and industrial models, contact us directly for pricing and availability.
How difficult is it to replace the filters yourself?
For residential models (12L and 20L), filter replacement is designed to be done by the user without any tools. Cartridges are accessed via a front or side panel, and the full replacement process takes around 10–15 minutes. A short flush cycle after installation primes the new filters. Full instructions are included with each kit and in the user manual. For larger commercial systems, our support team can guide you through the process remotely.
Is atmospheric water safe to drink without filtering?
Condensed atmospheric water in its raw form is actually very pure — purer than most groundwater sources. However, the condensation process and internal surfaces of any collection system introduce the potential for microbial growth and trace contamination. The filtration system is therefore essential, and is what elevates AquaFromAir output from technically drinkable to genuinely safe and great-tasting. None of our systems should be operated without their full filter set in place.
